Will hold a nationwide protest against ‘insult’ to tribals: Congress | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Amplifying its attack that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sidelining the first tribal President by inaugurating the Parliament himself, Congress announced that it will hold a nationwide protest on Friday against BJP’s “insult” to the tribal community.
AICC’s ST department chairman Shivajirao Moghe said, “For the first time, a tribal is the President, we have a woman resident. The inauguration by the PM is an insult to tribals and women. The President is an important part of the Parliament. It is the President who should inaugurate Parliament.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, addressing the PM, tweeted, “Parliament is the temple of democracy established by the people. The office of the President is the highest part of the Parliament. The arrogance of your government has destroyed the parliamentary system. 140 crore Indians want to know what do you want to prove by taking away the right of the President of India to inaugurate the Parliament House?”
Moghe said the protest will be held at block, village and district level in every state, where Congress workers will tell the people about the “insult” to the tribal community caused by keeping President Droupadi Murmu out of the inauguration ceremony scheduled for Sunday. He said the protest is aimed at pressuring the PM to change the inauguration plan.
The protest move came a day after an opposition bloc of 19 parties announced that they will boycott the inauguration.
Given the nature of controversy, the opposition led by Congress is moving to use it for political messaging among the marginalised communities. Moghe recalled that even the foundation laying of new Parliament was done by the PM by ignoring then President Ram Nath Kovind.
“We will also protest against the government policies targeting the tribals. They are using tribals for politics,” he added.
