PBKS vs DC: Mayank Agarwal gutted with Punjab’s horror batting display in crunch match

PBKS vs DC: Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal regretted the mistakes made by his batters in a 17-run defeat against Delhi Capitals on Monday. Agarwal said PBKS could have chased down the target of 160 had it not been for the loss of early wickets.

  • Agarwal said 160 was chaseable after PBKS lost to DC by 17 runs on Monday
  • PBKS could not recover after being reduced to 82 for 7 as DC stormed to victory

Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal was disappointed with a poor batting display after losing to Delhi Capitals by 17 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Monday.

Delhi Capitals stormed to the top-four after their emphatic victory while Punjab Kings are No.7 on the points table as the race for the playoffs heats up in the final week of the league matches in IPL 2022.

Chasing 160, Punjab Kings were tottering at 82 for 7 despite a quick start from Jonny Bairstow. However, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone and Mayank Agarwal failed to get going in a middling chase.

Jitesh Sharma tried to get PBKS over the line with 44 off 34 but he only found support from No.9 Rahul Chahar who finished unbeaten on 25 off 24 balls.

Mayank Agarwal rued the fact that his side lost too many wickets too early in their chase.

IPL 2022 Points Table

“We didn’t bat well. Between overs 5 and 10, we lost too many wickets and that’s where we lost the game. I thought it was definitely chaseable for the batting we have and the wicket wasn’t as bad as it seemed,” Agarwal told Star Sports.

“We just lost too many wickets between the 5th and 10th over and lost the game there,” he said.

MAYANK STILL HOPEFUL

Mayank Agarwal said he hoped Punjab Kings bring their A game for their final match of the league stages against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.

“It’s still a match to be played and a match to be won. Two points are crucial for us. We want to go out there and play the best cricket. I think we haven’t yet played our best cricket yet and we look forward to doing that in the last game.

“We need to speak about the way we went about things with the bat, but that’s about it. It’s a game to forget,” Agarwal said.
