Delhi Capitals left-arm spinner Axar Patel on Monday, May 16 became only the 2nd left-arm spinner to get to 100 wickets in the IPL. Axar got to the milestone when he dismissed Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal with a beautiful delivery in Match 64 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Axar Patel joined Ravindra Jadeja in the exclusive club of left-arm spinners with 100 wickets in the IPL. Axar achieved the landmark in his 121st match. Chennai Super Kings star Jadeja picked up 132 wickets in 210 matches in the IPL.
Axar Patel became only the 17th bowler overall to get to 100 wickets in the IPL. The left-arm spinner from Gujarat made his IPL debut in 2014 and has been a consistent performer in the league ever since. In IPL 2022, Axar has picked up only 6 wickets in 12 matches.
The India star delivered when it mattered the most for Delhi Capitals as he picked up 2 wickets and conceded only 14 runs in a stunning 4-over spell as the former finalists were defending 159 in a must-win match at the DY Patil Stadium.
Bowling right after the powerplay, Axar triggered a mini Punjab kings collapse by removing their captain Mayank Agarwal for 0. He then returned to pick up the wicket of in-form all-rounder Rishi Dhawan with another wonderfully-controlled delivery.
Axar worked well in tandem with Kuldeep Yadav as the two spinners gave only 28 runs and picked 4 wickets between them in 7 overs.
Earlier in the day, Liam Livingstone failed with the bat but the England star did the job with the ball, picking up 3 wickets, including that of Rishabh Pant, David Warner and Rovman Powell.
