  • On Sunday, LSG lost to RR by 24 runs
  • The Super Giants are yet to qualify for the playoffs
  • Rahul urged the LSG batters to get better

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul was highly disappointed with his team’s batters after the heavy 24-run defeat at the hands of Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, May 15 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. After being asked to chase down 179, LSG could hardly out the Royals bowlers under pressure and finished with 154/8.

The Lucknow-based team also faced back-to-back defeats, having also faced a loss to Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) the other night. The Super Giants are yet to qualify for the playoffs with one game left in the league stage. Rahul clearly said that their batting needs to improve in the upcoming matches.

HOLDING OUR NERVE

“It was a gettable target, a good pitch. The new ball was assisting the bowlers. We were good with the ball; the batting group has not performed collectively in a few games. We have to go back and get better. The pitch at Pune was harder,” Rahul was quoted as saying after the match.

“This was a better pitch. There was seam movement earlier and they bowled well. Losing two wickets was bad, we’ve lost games because of that before. So we need to find ways to get a good start when there is movement with the ball.

“Executing what we want to is the aim. Holding our nerve and give ourselves a chance to play out the new ball or play out a good spell. There’s often enough time to make up and go big from there,” he said.

After the loss, the Super Giants slipped to third in the points table, while the Royals moved up to second. Rahul’s men will next lock horns with Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, May 18 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
