Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed Uttarakhand medium pacer Akash Madhwal as a replacement for the injured Suryakumar Yadav in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 31-year-old Yadav was ruled out due to an injury to his left forearm muscle that he sustained during MI’s match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), led by Hardik Pandya, on May 6, 2022.
Yadav missed the first two games in the IPL 2022, but made a comeback and played some incredible knocks, although most of them ended in losing causes. In 8 matches, the right-handed batter went on to score 303 runs at an average of 43.29 with three half-centuries to show for his efforts. He has been with the Mumbai-based team since 2018 and was retained ahead of this edition’s mega auction.
As far as Madhwal is concerned, he plies his trade for Uttarakhand on the domestic circuit after making his debut in 2019. In 6 first-class, 11 List A and 15 T20 matches, the 28-year-old has picked up 8, 14 and 15 wickets respectively. He last played a competitive match in the Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan back in February.
MI KNOCKED OUT
As far as MI are concerned, they are languishing at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -0.613. After losing 8 matches in a row to start their campaign, the Mumbai-based team got back to winning ways, but they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Rohit Sharma, their skipper, has been in awful form with the bat as well. Their vice-captain, Kieron Pollard, hasn’t fired either. Their last match is against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
