IPL 2022: Prithvi Shaw is 50-50, says Rishabh Pant as Delhi Capitals eye playoffs berth

IPL 2022, PBKS vs DC: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant indicated Prithvi Shaw might have a role to play for the team after the aggressive opener was discharged from hospital following treatment for typhoid.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • On Monday, the Capitals defeated the Kings by 17 runs
  • This is the first time in the season that Delhi Capitals have won back-to-back matches.
  • Shaw was recently discharged from hospital after being treated for typhoid.

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant said explosive opener Prithvi Shaw was 50-50 and the team would get to know more in a few days’ time. On Monday, after DC beat Punjab Kings by 5 wickets to move into the top-four of the IPL 2022 points table, Pant indicated that Shaw could yet make a comeback into the playing XI.

Prithvi Shaw was recently discharged from hospital after being treated for typhoid. In his absence, DC tried Srikar Bharat as an opener alongside David Warner, but that move proved to be unsuccessful.

On Monday, DC brought back Sarfaraz Khan to open and he responded with a 16-ball 32 after David Warner was dismissed for a golden duck.

“I think he’s 50/50. We’ll know in a few days’ time,” Rishabh Pant told Star Sports.

This is the first time in the season that Delhi Capitals have won back-to-back matches.

Thanks to heroics from Mitchell Marsh (63), Shardul Thakur (4 for 36), Axar Patel (2 for 14) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 14), Delhi Capitals secured two more points to take their tally to 14 and displaced Royal Challengers Bangalore as the fourth-placed team in the points table.

Rishabh Pant said he wanted his team to end the cycle of winning one match and then losing the next and he was happy they were finally able to achieve it.

“Playing throughout the tournament we have been losing one game and winning one game. That’s something we wanted to change as a team and we got it,” he said.

Delhi Capitals play their final match of the league stages against Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians were the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs race but they have won three out of their last five matches and could be party spoilers. MI had knocked defending champions Chennai Super Kings with a convincing 5-wicket victory on Thursday.
