“I am really honoured and thankful to our honourable Prime Minister Modiji @PMOIndia for calling and talking with me and the whole team and congratulating us for winning the Badminton World Cup (Thomas cup). Really appreciate your great and continuous support,” Prannoy said in a social media post on Sunday.

Prannoy was not needed in Sunday’s win as India wrapped up the final, winning the first 3 matches. Lakshya Sen pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory over Anthony Ginting, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist following which Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated top-ranked Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya, saving 4 match points in the process.

World Championships silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth wrapped it up for India with a composed show against Jonathan Chrstie, beating the top 10 player in straight games as India brought powerhouses Indonesia down 3-0..

Lakshya Sen, one of the heroes of India’s Thomas Cup triump, also thanked PM Modi for his heartwarming gesture.

India became only the 6th nation after Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Denmark, and Japan to win the Thomas Cup title. Not many gave India a chance at the start of the prestigious team tournament, but the young team rallied against ods to script history.
