Government issues ‘high-risk’ warning for these Apple users – Times of India

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the IT ministry has issued a high severity warning for macOS users. The warning is for the users who are using Safari browser version prior to 15.5 on macOS. As per the warning, multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Safari browser which can be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.
The advisory further reveals “these vulnerabilities exist in Apple Safari for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina due to memory corruption and use-after-free within the WebKit component. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit maliciously crafted web content.”
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system. To avoid any swindling, the CERT-In wants Safari browser users to update to version 15.5. The mentioned version was rolled out by the tech giant earlier this week and it contains a number of fixes and improvements.
This week Apple has rolled out iOS 15.5 for all iPhone users. While the update doesn’t bring any major upgrades, it still has added some features to a few apps. Apple Wallet users will be able to request or send money directly through the Apple Cash Card. Earlier, they had to go to Messages to use this feature. Apple has also renamed the Apple Pay Messages app to Apple Cash Messages. Users in the European Union can now add vaccination records in the EU Digital COVID certificate format.
Apart from this, the Podcasts app is getting a new feature where users can set the limit to the number of episodes that can be stored on iPhone. It will also automatically delete the older episodes.
